2019/09 - Cheviot Rally (1 image) - created by Adge on 08/10/2019 at 17:39:38
The next rally for the RED Industries, Adgespeed, ABR Fabrications backed rally team of Adrian Spencer was the Ford Parts Cheviot Rally, the last round of the 2019 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally championship ,who this time had a new Co-driver Ashley Trimble on the notes in the Subaru Impreza S11 Replica. With Adrian looking to get more time in the new car and Ashley looking to claim 3rd O/A co-driver in the championship, it was going to be a challenging event over the tarmac roads on the military ranges of Otterburn in the North East of England.

It would be a long shot for Ashley as two of his closest rivals were in cars with drivers both capable of winning the event outright and Ashleys only hope was if one of them was unfortunate enough to retire.

The event didn't get off to a good start when the car refused to run properly due to a misfire, but after finally changing the fuel pump before the start, the car was back to full health. The problem also meant that they were unable to complete the recce of the route, but fortunately the pairs previous knowledge of Otterburn meant it wouldn't be too much of a hinderance.

The 1st loop consisted of 4 stages totaling 20 miles and with dry conditions, slicks were bolted on the car, a good steady run saw Adrian and Ashley 17th O/A. The 2nd loop a repeat of the previous stages and again they improved to 15th O/A, however it wasn't looking good for Ashley as his rivals were 1st and 3rd O/A.

The next stage was 7.4 miles but with it starting to rain Adrian decided to go for wets, but unfortunately the rain wasn't heavy enough to take advantage and precious time was lost and they dropped to 18th, so back at service it was back to the slicks.

The final 2 loops were 2 stages totalling 10.5 miles repeated and with a good runs except for an off road excursion on one of the stages held on to finish 18th O/A at the end.

Unfortunately Ashley's 2 rivals finished 1st and 3rd O/A so he had to settle for 4th O/A in the championship, but he did pick up a 3rd in the B15 class.

With the car in one piece, the team is now preparing for the Neil Howard Stages Rally at Oulton Park on the 2nd November. Hopefully the engine upgrades will be ready in time and with Mark Hewitt, Adrian's long serving Co-driver back on the notes, a great days rallying is on the cards.
