Current Event - 14:43 - Adge
This weekend sees the Adgespeed rally team off to the Isle of Man for the 2nd round of the REIS MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, the Manx National rally. This will be Adrian and Marks 1st time on the island, so they will be at a disadvantage to most of the other crews who have rallied there before, but as Adrian said if you don't go you'll never learn and with the event being on Adrian and Marks list of rallies to do, now seems as good at time as any.

After the problems on the 1st round and an unsuccessful rally at the Horiba D'isis rally held at MIRA a few weeks ago, when they retired with an electrical fault on the 1st stage, the team are hopeful of a clean run.

Team Adgespeed gears up for this year's REIS MSA Asphalt Rally Championship - 12:02 - Adge
After the debut of the teams new Impreza last year, Adrian and Mark are looking forward to a full attack at the 2011 championship.

With the car currently undergoing a winter overhaul and re-preparation at Adgespeed Ltd in readiness for the forthcoming season, Adrian and Mark are confident that the few niggling problems which the car was suffering from last year have now been overcome.

With the 1st round of the Championship the Tour of Epynt Rally only a matter of weeks away, the team are busy finishing off getting every thing ready in eager anticipation of the forthcoming challenge.

After winning the BTRDA Asphalt series in 2007 and 2009, changes have been made with the BTRDA series becoming part of the REIS MSA Championship and changing to 2 wheel drive cars only, these changes mean that Adrian and Mark are unable to enter in their current car and so will be competing in the main REIS MSA Asphalt Championship.

Asked on his thoughts for the year ahead, Adrian commented that it would be a challenging year competing against the best cars and drivers, but was hopeful of a top 5 finish with a good clean run over the 9 events spread over England, Scotland, Wales, IOM and Ireland which the championship has.
  • Tour of Epynt - 13th March
  • IManx Telecom rally - 6-7th May

King Officially The Fastest Rotax At Buckmore Park! - 14:48 - Adge
14 yr old Junior Rotax frontrunner Andy King traveled down to Buckmore Park this weekend for round three of the Super 1 British Championship and was crowned the fastest Rotax driver of all classes!

Starting with Friday's open practice King was immediately on pace and simply fine tuned each session to finish well ahead of his main competitors with untouchable raw pace, many heads were being scratched that night as well as some wondering whether the 14 yr old Rochdale lad could repeat the same pace in the all important Saturday timed qualifying.

Yes he could and better!

King poled his Maranello RS10 kart and smashed the Buckmore Park lap record along the way. With a now level playing field with everyone using the excellent 09 Rotax engines with scarcely a tenth between each one, this weekend was going to really sort the wheat out from the chaff!

Heat one saw a text book lights to flag victory with King taking fastest lap along the way.

Sunday and with extremely hot conditions, King prepared for heat two and again drove a faultless race with another lights to flag victory and again taking fastest lap along the way.

This gave King the enviable position of pole for the pre-final and with 30 other top British drivers around him it was not going to be all plain sailing for the Adgespeed backed youngster. With 25 laps ahead King had already worked out his pre race plan and after a clean start proceeded to lead into turn one, King was tapped from the rear causing him to run wide allowing Brand and Cowley to cleanly run through, with head down King chased and by the following lap a tight train of three started breaking away from the pack. Unfortunately disaster was to strike, Cowley and King entered side by side into a corner with what was described by most as a "driving incident" but dislodged both karts from P2 and P3. Both continued and King stormed back through the traffic to take a disappointing 2nd whilst closing in fast on race leader Brand lap by lap, King took fastest lap yet again!

Further disaster was to come in the form of a visit to the COC (clerk of the course) where it was deemed King's fault and was excluded from the results, although an appeal was heard the decision still stood.

This put the first year Junior Rotax driver to the rear of the 30 strong grid in what everyone knows would be a mountain to climb to achieve any decent result.

King didn't disappoint.

Putting the previous actions behind him King only had one plan and that was to get as far up the grid as quick as he could and that he did with breathtaking, precise, expert skill.

Picking off competitors sometimes two at a time and down the fast downhill section King was on a mission. Some of his manoeuvres caused applaud, gasps of awe and grateful adulations post race, with a final finish of 5th this simply showed all around what this 14 yr old youngster really is capable of doing under extreme pressure but the icing on the cake was to come when it was realised that not only was King the official fastest Rotax driver of the weekend out of all the classes but he had smashed the Buckmore Park Junior Rotax lap record by over 4/10ths.

Andy wants to thank Steve Ogden (Ogden Motorsport,) Andy Scales (ASR Racing) and the many people for their kind words of support and advice and looks forward to continuing his consistent run of top form for the rest of the racing calender.

Adgespeed backed Andy King Proves he is the Driver to Beat in Junior Rotax - 00:22 - Adge
Junior Max racer Andy King using the Maranello Kart has had a brilliant run of results in 2009, most recently a win in Formula Kart Stars at Glan-y-Gors, where he also won the Prefinal and took the fastest lap, although it was no surprise he was so strong because he totally dominated the club meeting earlier in the month too. Full report from GYG coming soon.

Andy also took fourth in the Super One at Rowrah at the end of April, then a couple of weeks later improved on that by winning the club meeting at Rowrah in preparation for the Formula Kart Stars round later in the season.

His next big race will be the third Super One round at Buckmore on June 14th, where Andy raced back in February, again winning every time he went out on the track.

Quality not Quantity - 17:29 - Adge
14 year old Adgespeed backed Junior Rotax frontrunner Andy King travelled back down to Buckmore Park this weekend for some pre-Super 1 practice prior to June's Round 3 date and almost repeated his previous performance of a clean sweep were it not for a coolant spillage on track!

On only his 6th visit and 2nd as a Junior Rotax driver, King set an untouchable blistering pace in Saturday practice finishing off with a performance just 2 tenths away from the 2007 lap record and the fastest recorded driver of the day throughout all classes.

A small (13) but quality grid of several Super 1 frontrunners who were also getting some last minute practice in set the scene for some fantastic high quality racing and none of them were to disappoint.

In timed qualification King took the honours by a mere tenth from Josh Webster which gave a pole position start for heat 1.

A text book start and lights to flag victory with no answer from the main opposition again set King as pole man for the pre-final.

Again another text book start saw the Rochdale youngster pull what was going to be a lead out of reach for the rest of the field until a coolant spillage from a driver resulted in King hitting it first and covering his tyres causing lack of traction, this allowed several drivers to take the advantage to pass and left King having to drive the best he could to keep the kart on the black stuff, several other competitors came in thinking they had punctured tyres their karts handled so bad only to find they too had the spillage on their tyres. King worked back to 4th but with 3rd place unachievable the quick thinking Maranello driver slowed to allow 5th place driver to pass thus giving King 5th place and more importantly the inside line for the grand final.

With 15 laps ahead King had already set out his game plan which he executed to the finest detail starting off with gaining 4th place by the end of lap 1. Over the next few laps he started to hunt down the next driver and had by lap 8 taken both 2nd and 3rd place driver to put him in P2 but by now with a larger mountain to climb to the leader than he had hoped for.

King's kart by lap 10 was now on song and whilst pulling away from 3rd and 4th place drivers King started to reel in 1st place driver Josh Webster, by the final lap board King was still at least 8 kart lengths behind but by the time they hit the downhill gradient that had been reduced to 4 and what has been described by many as the manoeuvre of all manoeuvres King cleanly outbraked and powered past Webster to command the next final 3 corners and take the flag and the fastest lap, less than a mere 2 tenths off the 2007 record.

So 3 out of 4 and two fastest laps.

King travels to Rowrah this weekend for round 2 of Super 1 where he hopes to continue his consistent form to date.

Karting News - 12:16 - Adge
Mr Consistent, Adgespeed backed Junior Rotax driver Andy King, started 6 weeks ago by wrapping up the PFi Winter series followed by a series of wins and podium finishes. His run of form culminated in an emphatic and faultless drive last weekend at Wigan's Three Sisters circuit to take a well deserved win, bringing his podium visits to 6 in 6 races over 6 weekends!

The RS10 Maranello seems to adapt easily with very little work to all UK circuits so far and performs exactly as Andy requires.

This weekend will see Andy compete in the first round of the prestigious Super 1 event at Whilton Mill, Daventry against some of the very best in the UK. Consistency is the name of the game and King has plenty of that.

Sunday 29th March sees the 2nd round of the BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series 2009. Taking place at the MOD base at Caerwent in south wales and offering 7 stages with a total of 70 miles. Seeded at car 11 this event will be a tough challenge for Adrian and Mark as they have never been to the venue before and have no experience of the stages, whereas their main championship rivals have competed there before. Hopefully the knowledge gained will be useful as the championship returns to the venue in September.

Rainmeister King does it again at Rowrah - 20:20 - Adge
Andy King travelled to Rowrah this weekend for some valuable pre Super 1 practice and proved once again that in any weather condition the Adgespeed backed Junior Rotax driver can produce the results.

Saturday wet practice saw the Maranello mounted driver show the way and set a blistering unrivalled pace in all sessions that simply left onlookers in awe!

Sundays 3 heats saw Andy take a fastest lap and positions which would place him 3rd on a quality grid of Super 1 frontrunners to include Jack Dex, Bill Cowley and Joe McKeand, seeded numbers 5, 6 and 10 respectively. After red flagging the rolloing lap due to adverse weather conditions the drivers were given just 10 minutes to make neccessary changes to suit the now very wet conditions, favouring the rainmeister himself!

From a poor start due to the poleman's engine briefly stuttering, Andy made good his start before being tapped from the rear coming out of hairpin 2 and spinning the Maranello driver around, without hesitation King got his head down and started to charge at a blistering pace through the pack and by lap 5 of the scheduled 15 he had gained 2nd position before making a further charge to take control at the front on lap 6, from there it was no contest and King simply drew away from the crowd without thinking of backing down and pacing himself, King was determined to take fastest lap and this he duly did on lap 12 and finishing 1st across the line with 2nd place Dex 5 seconds behind managing to get within 2/10ths of Kings fastest lap.

Andy would like to thank Adrian of Adgespeed, Steve Ogden Motorsport for excellent engines and service and Bob of Kartune/Maranello UK.
